ADVANCEMENTS IN EYEWEAR HELP FIGHT THE EFFECTS OF DIGITAL EYE STRAIN

Innovations in eyewear technology are helping to alleviate digital eye strain, the physical discomfort suffered by individuals after screen use for more than two hours.

Innovations in eyewear technology are helping to alleviate digital eye strain, the physical discomfort suffered by individuals after screen use for more than two hours.

A report by The Vision Council, a non-profit organization serving as a global voice for eyewear and eyecare, found that approximately 80% of American adults use digital devices for over two hours every day, while almost 67% of them use two or more devices at the same time, and 59% have admitted to suffering from digital eye strain symptoms.

Despite such striking figures, however, 69% of American adults admitted to being unaware of the various eyewear solutions on the market to protect the eyes from short and long-term effects of digital eye strain. Additionally, 87% reported not knowing there were also contact lenses available to tackle the symptoms.

The Vision Council is eager to emphasise the importance of utilising eyewear to avoid digital eye strain. It also highly recommends adults and children seek the advice of an eyecare professional to find the most appropriate eyewear to relieve the adverse effects of prolonged digital screen use.
